Cave Mountain Picture Jasper – Oregon
Cave Mountain Picture Jasper is a collectible American jasper from Oregon, known for dramatic natural patterns that often resemble desert landscapes, canyon walls, mountains, and distant horizons.
Origin and Character
Location: Oregon, USA.
Appearance: Typically features earthy combinations of rust red, reddish brown, ochre, tan, cream, and gray. Its flowing bands and sharply defined areas of contrasting color can create remarkably scenic patterns when properly oriented and cut.
Lapidary Material: Cave Mountain Jasper takes a beautiful polish and makes exceptional cabochons. Much of its appeal comes from the lapidary artist choosing exactly where to cut the rough to capture a naturally occurring “picture” within the stone.
Availability: Cave Mountain is a relatively limited-production material compared with commercially available jaspers. High-quality rough—and especially pieces producing strong, well-defined scenic patterns—is increasingly sought after by collectors and lapidary artists.
