Morrisonite jasper is a rare, highly prized porcelain jasper from southeastern Oregon often called the "King of Jaspers".

Origin and History

Location: Found in a remote canyon above the Owyhee River in Malheur County, Oregon.

Name: Named after James Morison (often spelled Morrison), a rancher who lived in the area.

Discovery: First found in the 1930s, with claims established in 1964.

Status: Commercial mining ended decades ago, and the original sites are closed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) due to dangerous terrain, making old-stock material scarce and collectible.
