Colla Wood is a highly collectible variety of mineralized petrified wood from Turkey, prized for its unusual colors, intricate patterns and remnants of the original wood structure. Its combination of organic textures and vivid mineralization can produce exceptionally distinctive cabochons.

Origin and Characteristics

Location: Colla Wood originates in Turkey and has become sought after among lapidaries and collectors for the unusual coloration found within the material.

Appearance: Colors can vary dramatically, including shades of blue, green, turquoise, cream, tan, brown and reddish tones. Areas of preserved wood grain may be mixed with colorful mineral-filled pockets, veins and abstract patterns.

Formation: The material began as ancient wood that was gradually mineralized as silica-rich groundwater moved through the buried material, replacing or filling portions of the original organic structure.
