Tiger Iron Hand Cut Cabochon

Tiger Iron is a striking natural stone composed primarily of tiger’s eye, hematite, and jasper, layered together over immense spans of geological time. The combination creates its characteristic bands of metallic silver-gray, rich earthy tones, and golden to reddish-brown tiger’s eye.

One of Tiger Iron’s most distinctive features is the contrast between the reflective, chatoyant shimmer of tiger’s eye and the metallic luster of hematite. Patterns can vary dramatically from piece to piece, ranging from bold sweeping bands to intricate folds and abstract formations.

Much of the best-known Tiger Iron comes from Western Australia, where ancient iron-rich formations have produced exceptional lapidary material.

Each of our Tiger Iron cabochons is individually hand-cut and polished in our studio, with careful attention given to orientation to bring out the stone’s natural pattern, contrast, and movement.
